Dunedin was treated to a spectacular iD Dunedin Fashion Show with Redken the official hair sponsor for the 12th consecutive year. Local designers NOM*d, Carlson, Tamsin Cooper and Company of Strangers showed inspired winter collections to sell-out crowds on the Southern Hemisphere’s longest catwalk. The Hokonui Fashion Design Awards is this year celebrating 25 years at the forefront of New Zealand fashion, as it opens for entries once again. BRITs Awards - Fudge Backstage Spa hair partner!
Professional cult hair brand Fudge was the official Backstage Spa hair partner at this years BRITs Awards, held on 20th February in London and broadcast live. HITO/ Kitomba NZARH Business Awards Winners!
On Sunday 11th November the annual Hito/Kitomba/NZARH Business Awards were held in Wellington’s Grand Old Town Hall. Around 300 people from New Zealand’s hair industry attended the gala 3 course dinner and ceremony. On the last day of Fashion Week we were totally blown away with an amazing hair show presented by Servilles in conjunction with L’Oréal Professionnel at Auckland’s Viaduct Event Centre . National finalists for the Wella Professionals Trend Vision Awards 2012 have been announced!
18 finalists have been chosen to be in the running to represent New Zealand and make us proud on the world stage in Madrid, Spain, this October. The Trend Vision Award is an annual competition that celebrates the skills of innovative stylists and showcases their passion, creative flair and ability to a global audience. After hours of judging, the top representatives of New Zealand, from Auckland to Dunedin, have been picked to compete at the NZ National Final this September.
Influential Fashion Icon To Judge Hokonui Fashion Design Awards!
Hokonui Fashion Design Awards now in its 24th year, is the longest running event on the New Zealand fashion calendar. Since 1988, the awards have offered amateur designers the chance to showcase their work in front of top fashion experts. Spearheading the judging panel this year will be New Zealand fashion icon Doris de Pont, on her third visit to the Awards. A designer for more than 25 years, Doris retired her label in 2008 and now works as a freelance fashion curator.

Rodney Wayne Salons Dig Deep for Christchurch!
In response to the devastating earthquakes that hit Christchurch late in 2010 and early 2011, the Rodney Wayne Group searched for an effective way to help family, friends and colleagues affected by the natural disasters. Professional theatre offers great opportunities for students to gain valuable hands-on experience. Cut Above students in the ‘Diploma in Makeup’ work as backstage crew for Amici Productions on at least two shows a year. Following on from Cats and 42nd St in 2010, this year the class recently completed the three-week season of Miss Saigon at the Civic Theatre – They then go into preproduction in August for the Amici production of Cole Porter’s Anything Goes – again at the Civic.

Immediately after the February earthquake, Jamie Dryden of Fabrik called other Hamilton salon owners to see if something could be done within the local industry to raise funds for the victims of the Christchurch earthquake. Guy Mascolo’s Sudden Death Leaves Hair World Saddened
Guy Mascolo, co-founder of the TONI&GUY salon group, has died suddenly of a heart attack in his home in Dallas on the 6th May aged 65. Guy [Gaetano] together with his brother Toni was the founder of TONI&GUY. Their globally renowned hairdressing company was launched in Clapham in South London in 1963 when the brothers were still in their late teens. The sons of Francesco and Maria Mascolo, the brothers learned their hairdressing skills from their father.

The launch party for the exquisite Chaun Spa took place on the 16th April at the five star Langham Hotel in Symonds Street. Images were invited to be part of this very special occasion. We were delighted to be given a personal tour of this absolutely stunning urban oasis and wow!... we were impressed! Ken and Rosemary Currie hosted Afternoon Tea at ‘The Great Room’ at Auckland’s Langham Hotel on Sunday 21st March for hair and beauty friends who had been part of their amazing business journey over the past 40 years. Along with the delightful afternoon tea, provided by the Langham, there was a silent auction with the proceeds going to the ‘Look Good Feel Better’ charity, a free service offered to women undergoing treatment for cancer.
