'The New Backcomb' By International Guest Artist Lance Blanchette for Joico at RAFW 2010

This year, it’s all about the new backcomb. Crimping at the crown replaces teasing to give a modern, rock and roll twist to any hairstyle. Joico’s International Guest Artist, Lance Blanchette, used the new backcomb technique when directing the hair for top Australian designers, Camilla and Nicola Finetti at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2010.

Silk Result Thermal Smoother was the top product behind the scenes for Lance’s following looks to lock in brilliant shine and hold, while protecting hair from heat damage and humidity.

For Nicola Finetti, the Joico team introduced the new backcombing for 2010, using Silk Result Thermal Smoother to hold and protect hair before crimping at the crown. This modern take on a fundamental technique reintroduced the beehive as a rock-star quiff. Pulling the sides and back into a very strict vertical pleat in the back, Lance added hold with JoiMist Medium and glamour with Brilliantine Spray Gloss for a weightless shine.

Inspired by Avatar, Camilla’s story was told through six sections of the Babylon titled event. Graphic feminine shapes were supported with JoiWhip Mousse for control and Brilliantine Spray Gloss for shine. The new backcombing, all over crimping and pin weaving was both protected and held in place with Silk Result Thermal Smoother, to create a whimsical yet structured look.
