Beyond The Fringe - Beyond All Expectations!

Beyond The Fringe’ has  catered for the needs of people  in the Marlborough region  for over 22 years with salons in Picton, Redwood Village & Blenheim.

"Way back when the Dinosaurs roamed the earth...” Laughs Rochelle Stevenson, owner of  Beyond The Fringe salons, as she starts to describe how and when she was first introduced into the hair & beauty industry. "With my mother, sister and cousins all in the industry, this was the last thing I wanted to do when I was growing up. And here I am 30 years later with three salons. I guess it must have been in the blood all along” says Rochelle.

Rochelle started her apprenticeship in Blenheim in 1980. She soon qualified and shot off to the bright lights in Australia to ‘live a little’.  Like most New Zealanders though, home is really where the heart is and it wasn’t all that long before Rochelle headed back to New Zealand & down to Picton, her home town. There at the age of 25, she  purchased her first salon ‘Beyond The Fringe’.

"Learning my way through staff issues and business was at times tough, as a wide eyed 25 year old but we managed and decided to grow and extend our business into Blenheim in 1999” says Rochelle. Having been a Schwarzkopf PH Elite salon since 1999,  winning the Schwarzkopf Business Development of the Year was a major highlight for Rochelle in 2001.

Burnetta Haswell a former L’Oreal Colour Trophy winner, has recently come on board from Servilles in Auckland bringing with her 28 years of experience. Having been with the company for 8 months since moving down with her family from Auckland, Burnetta’s strength is experience in photographic competitions and makeup, after working with some of the best in the country.

Burnetta’s role this year will be helping to build  the ‘Beyond The Fringe’ profile, working alongside staff in all areas of hairdressing and photographic competitions. ‘Beyond The Fringe’ strongly encourages stylists and apprentices to enter competitions. "It inspires them to be creative and more interesting with their work” says Rochelle.  Being Vice president of the Nelson Marlborough  hairdressing association Rochelle is bringing the NZARH Regional competitions to Blenhiem for the first time in 18 years.
