 Many smart thinking Hair salons are seeing the benefits in a one stop shop approach and want to be able to offer high end makeup as well as the perfect cut and colour with supporting homecare products. 

How do you manage the transition from hair only, to including  makeup as well?

You need staff who are passionate about great style and making people feel they can achieve it, for your customer to be able to enjoy a complete appearance experience, with up to the moment product, staff knowledge and skills.

Some salons have a makeup artist in their staff already and some want to up-skill their staff from the juniors up, to create more/new client list possibilities as well as offering new options to senior stylists and 
consultants.

Whatever way you choose, you need people who are passionate to use it regularly and drive retail sales and you need a brand that can deliver brilliant product, great training and excellent stock support.

All of the above, but important too, is choosing the right brand that will appeal to your current and target customers – you need to consider that if you are declaring health and well being for your customers hair so it must be the same message for your makeup – ie it must be supportive and safe for the skin as well as making them look and feel fantastic.

If your clientele is a mixed age group and also fashion forward you need something that works for all demographics and doesn’t alienate anyone because it’s packaging is  slanted to only one age group – does the retail range appeal to all ages and demographics. Do the graphics and packaging look modern, current and chic? Is there an excellent retail range that can build customer love and loyalty?

Add a new revenue stream to your salon and give your customers another great  reason to come in. Your staff will learn, use and provide more skills and talents and have more reason to grow their confidence and business too.
