Sabatini Opens New Zealand Fashion Week

Sabatini kicked off New Zealand Fashion Week, previewing the new Sabatini White winter collection, titled ‘Many Happy Returns’. The show was held at Bellini Bar in the Auckland Hilton with a light breakfast of Champagne and canapés marking 20 years of Sabatini collections.

It was a strong turnout of insiders, family and friends and being the first official event on the NZFW schedule, there were plenty of TV faces: Petra Bagust, Kate Hawkesby, Kate Rodger and Colin Mathura-Jeffree, the official NZFW ambassador. Behind the scenes Wayne Richardson from Kitzo in Hamilton lead the L’Oreal Professionnel hair team.

Longer lengths may be ruling the international runways, but here the telly babes wore hiked hemlines. The standout of the show was also super short, a little blood red tutu that was a youthful update on the classic 50s dress shape, fitted through the body then flaring wide, but cut Sydney short.

This was a special show for Sabatini, celebrating the 20th year of a label that has grown into a successful exporter from the Milich family’s beginnings with Sonny Elegant Knitwear. Managing director Tony Milich drew a round of applause pointing out that the vast bulk of Sabatini’s production is still made right here in Mt Roskill.
