Badgley Mischka’s Spring Summer Collection 2012 featured dramatic, voluminous multi-textured updos created by Runway stylist Peter Gray for Moroccanoil.

Inspired by the volume and shapes of sculptor Umberto Boccioni – coupled with the flowing curly texture of Elizabeth Taylor’s hair in her powerful award-winning performance in ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.’

The glamorous look featured cascades of luminous curls flowing in a graceful triangular shape and resting on a smooth, sculptural foundation of a bold French Twist.

Gray said, "This look is all about the preparation of the hair, I used cocktails of Moroccanoil products to create the shape and movement and to make sure the hair stayed healthy, smooth, and well-conditioned throughout the styling process. " Gray added, "It was important that the hair looked sexy, well cared for and shiny on the runway.”

Back: Bold French Twist

"I first applied new Moroccanoil Frizz Control and Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to

dampened hair to build in smoothness and soft hold”, said Gray.

"Next, I made a long vertical section from the top of the ear to the crown. To bump up volume and lift the foundation of the look, I sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray at the root and blow-dried each section with a round Moroccanoil Ionic Ceramic Hair Brush”, added Gray.

"I backcombed the hair and turned it into a huge French Twist, keeping it in place with bobby pins crisscrossed in from nape to crown”, Gray commented.

The front and crown: Triangular Flowing Curls

Gray said, "To prepare the rest of the hair, I created a classic roller set using a ¾” iron, meticulously pinning each curl section by section. I used Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray on individual sections and all over the head, and allowed the curls to set.”

"After releasing the set, I combed hair on ends gently with a wide tooth comb to preserve the curls, and loosely brushed the hair from root to mid-head for a smoother texture”, added Gray.

"Finally the most important part of my work, shaping texture, I backcombed each section, starting at the crown and working forward, to create a large mass of hair. I then created the look and shaped, twisted, folded and sculpted all the hair into a flowing triangular shape”, said Gray.

"These shapes were then brought up to the crown area, and secured to the top of the smoothed French Twist. I sprayed the whole look once more with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray for a hold that looked soft, flowing and natural”, commented Gray.
