Team Seven has Award-Winning Style

Dedication, commitment and passion. These are the key attributes Team Seven hairdressing manager Aaron Karam-Whalley attributes to his salon’s success.

With eighteen staff now working at their two salons in Hamilton and Te Awamutu, Team Seven continues to go from strength to strength and is now one of the most successful and award-winning salons in the Waikato.

The team had a competitive year for 2011, taking out numerous awards at the Waikato Hair Fashion Design Awards including Top Overall Senior, Top Senior Cutting, Top Senior Styling,Top Overall Apprentice Styling, Top Apprentice Cutting and Top Apprentice Styling.

While national awards are aplenty, Team Seven has also won international recognition, taking out Melbourne’s Oceanic Hairdressing Master Award 2011.

"Through the teams’ artistic and competitive work we have earned a reputation of creative, bold hairdressing,” says Aaron. "This differentiates us and helps us remain at the forefront of hairdressing.”

Team Seven is a L’Oréal Professionnel salon set in a bohemian style environment that provides a salon experience that separates it from others.

From personal hair and scalp diagnosis, home hair care recommendations, meticulous client records, to having a hot towel ready at the conclusion of every salon service – it’s the finishing touches that contribute to the salon’s ongoing success.

A major challenge was finding a way to pass on the skills and techniques of the successful stylists and replicate that success within the whole team.

To facilitate this, Aaron developed a ‘training bible’ which covers the five key areas of the clients’ journey – the greeting, the consultation, the workshop, the seated finish and the follow up.

The philosophy ensures his team consistently provides the best service at the highest level, earning the salon a respected reputation within the industry.

Continuously educating the team and making sure everyone is up to date with the latest cutting and colouring techniques ensuresteam sevendelivers a unique level of service to each and every client.

"Our team are passionate about hairdressing and are committed to helping clients achieve the perfect look,” says Aaron.

With a finger on the pulse of the latest technology, team seven’s willingness to adapt and change has been a factor to their continued success.

The salon also has a strong online presence on both Facebook, twitter and recently launched an e-commerce section to its website resulting in a huge increase in bookings and enquires.

Retail sales are another key contributor to team seven’s success and play an integral role in generating new clients to the salon.

"Sales in home hair care are underestimated in many salons and retail sales make up an average of 55 per cent of the groups’ weekly takings,” Aaron says. "Retail products fly off our shelves!

"One of our key focuses is to ensure clients not only walk away looking great, but leave armed with the right products, equipment and skills to be able to recreate the look themselves.

"We believe this philosophy makes for a truly great hairdresser.”
